Morio Worms
Morio worms are the tropical version of a mealworm, only much larger and are sometimes referred to as ‘super giant mealworms.’ They are the larvae of the Zophobas Morio beetle and are a species of darkling beetle. Over recent years, morio worms have increased in popularity due to their broad range of uses. Like mealworms, Morio worms are used by aviary bird keepers, reptile owners, and fisherman too who use the Morio worms for course fishing and in particular, trout fishing.
Morio Worm Care
Morio worms arrive in plastic, perforated containers, or in breathable bags depending on the amount purchased. If the Morio worms arrive in a breathable bag they should be removed and placed in an open-topped tray deep enough to contain them and the sides should be smooth and clean to prevent the Morio worms from escaping.
Because Morio worms are of tropical origins they need to be stored warm. We find that a temperature of 18 degrees is ideal and they do prefer to kept in the dark. Morio worms should not be stored in temperatures below the ideal storage temperature of 18 degrees as this will seriously reduce their longevity and result in premature death.
